We took our name from the popular 1970s television show "Kung Fu", the story of a Shaolin Monk in exile in the American Wild West. It was Qwai Chang Caine or young "Grasshopper" who gave us that first taste of the Eastern Philosophy that has since captured our world and enhanced us as a culture.

Many of us still remember the phrase "When you can snatch the pebble from my hand, you will be ready". We took some of these lessons and incorporated them into our salon's philosophy as well as our name.

At Grasshopper we learn by teaching. As you begin to teach, you gain the insight and the unspoken lessons of good education. We train all of our staff to become teachers so that they are able to communicate new ideas to each other and to our clients. We believe the art of consultation is a vital part of our stylists education. All of our staff have completed our Apprentice Program and as part of their education are sent to academies in NYC, LA and London. Our Creative director can be seen teaching classes at TIGI Academies and Salons across the United States, and in Europe and Asia.

Our Apprentice Program works by using a practiced methodology borrowed from and built upon by our partners at Toni & Guy/TIGI who have been a successful, educationally based company for more that 40 years.

We believe it is this continual communication and education that keeps our minds open to new ideas in interpreting fashion and hair.
